The Rainbow Collection: How AI Art and Activism Created an LGBTQ+ Fashion Brand | Our Origin Story

A Creative Revolution Born from Necessity

Hi, I'm Kristin, co-founder and creative director of The Rainbow Collection. Forgive my voice here, because the computer has translated me to make me sound more...I don't know, fucking sellable or something. Our story began in the aftermath of what felt like doomsday last November. During a trip to North Carolina with my husband Mike, a casual domain-browsing session sparked something revolutionary – the intersection of AI technology, fashion, and activism.

Finding My Creative Voice Through AI

I've always been a t-shirt enthusiast, collecting pieces that make statements – witty ones, angry ones, political ones, the kind that get in your face and make you think. For years, I'd find myself saying, "that would make a great shirt," but turning those ideas into reality proved challenging.

Despite working in design for most of my life, traditional mediums were always a struggle. Diagnosed early with severe hand-eye coordination issues and other learning disabilities, my attempts at painting and drawing left me frustrated. Even during my years as a floral designer, I fought to make my hands create what my mind envisioned.

Then came AI-generated art, and suddenly, everything changed. For the first time, I could translate my creative vision directly into artwork. This technological breakthrough didn't just open doors – it broke down walls.

Fashion Meets Activism: Why We Fight

We're living in challenging times, facing real threats to equality and human rights. The Rainbow Collection isn't just about fashion – it's about representing a united front against discrimination and hate.

As a queer woman who identifies as pan-demi, my journey has been unique. Marrying the man I love meant I've experienced less discrimination than many in our LGBTQ+ community. This relative privilege drives me to take action and stand up for those facing more severe challenges.

Our Mission: More Than Just T-Shirts

What might look like angry little t-shirts adorned with colorful, big-eyed cartoon animals are actually powerful tools for change. Each design represents:

  • Support for marginalized communities
  • Resistance against discrimination
  • Unity in the face of adversity
  • Hope for a more inclusive future

Join Our Movement
